Lowest-cost regions for new 48x40
Southeast (GA, AL, MS, NC, SC, TN) and Appalachian states (KY, WV, VA) — abundant hardwood and dense pallet manufacturing. Expect $12–$17 new, $5–$9 used.
Premium-priced regions
California, Pacific Northwest, and the Northeast metros. Less hardwood, higher labor, longer freight. Expect $18–$24 new, $8–$13 used.
Midwest sweet spot
Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, and Kansas City offer some of the best price-per-mile economics in the country — high industrial density and good lane density mean predictable supply and competitive pricing.
