Block vs Stringer Pallets: Which One Does Your DC Need?

Block pallets and stringer pallets serve different roles. Here's the practical difference, the cost gap, and how to spec the right one for your operation.

The structural difference

Stringer pallets use 2x4 boards (stringers) running between the top and bottom decks. They're typically two-way entry (can be made four-way with notches). Block pallets use solid wood or composite blocks at the corners and midpoints, allowing true four-way forklift and pallet-jack entry.

Cost and durability tradeoffs

Stringers are cheaper to build and dominate North America — they're the GMA standard. Block pallets are stronger, more durable, easier to handle with pallet jacks from any side, and are the global / Euro standard.

If you run a lot of pallet jacks, sort to multiple lanes, or export internationally, block pallets often pay for themselves through reduced damage and faster handling.
